While studying French at UNC Charlotte, Amy Hunt Callahan took a pottery course at Chapman Pottery for relaxation. After eight classes she was hooked. Master Potter Kim Chapman took her on as an apprentice, and nurtured her growing skills for two years, letting her help with his classes and production work. She now has her own studio in Concord, North Carolina.

Amy believes pottery should be as sturdy and functional as it is beautiful,
therefore she works with stoneware. Each piece is handmade and hand
painted, making every piece a unique work of art. She fires her work at high
temperatures, so it is safe to use in the microwave and dishwasher. The
glazed surfaces are lead-free and make the piece safe for food use. The
rough painted surfaces are actually the raw clay, allowing the user to feel
the natural texture of the medium.
Amy is proud to be a North Carolina potter, a career rich in history and tradition. She is looking forward to seeing the evolution of her work in the future.
